Kevin Chou, Founder

Kevin is an experienced, practical, business-savvy lawyer with over 25 years of experience representing individuals and companies in a variety of industries and areas, and has an unique understanding of the needs of high growth, technology and consumer businesses. Kevin has served as the head of legal for several companies, including a private company that Kevin guided through its initial public offering and its formative years as a public company, a private company that was acquired by a public company, and the digital division of a major media publishing company. Kevin has also served as in-house counsel for a number of public companies. Additionally, Kevin was associated with a highly regarded group of a boutique law firm based in Austin, Texas, focusing on startups, and two prominent law firms in the San Francisco Bay Area, practicing in the fields of corporate law, general business and start-up counseling, venture capital financing, technology law, licensing, mergers and acquisitions, securities and real estate. Kevin has managed many of the legal issues that both technology and non-technology companies face on a daily basis.

 

After founding Kevin Chou Legal, Kevin was most recently a Partner with Egan Nelson LLP, a boutique law firm, and was part of the group that focused on startups. Prior to founding Kevin Chou Legal, Kevin served as Senior Counsel, Digital for Amazon.com, Inc., where he held primary responsibility for the legal support of numerous businesses, including the launch and growth of the Amazon Appstore (standalone and in connection with the Kindle Fire, the Amazon Fire phone, and Amazon TV), digital video games and software, and a number of retail businesses. Prior to joining Amazon, Kevin served as Vice President and General Counsel of Glu Mobile Inc., taking Glu through its IPO and leading Glu's legal department. Before Glu, Kevin was Senior Counsel for Knight Ridder, Inc., a newspaper and media company, and served as general counsel for Knight Ridder Digital, the digital division of Knight Ridder with 40% compounded annual growth, until the acquisition of Knight Ridder by The McClatchy Company. Prior to Knight Ridder, Kevin served as Associate General Counsel of The Thomas Kinkade Company, an art and licensing company based on the works of artist Thomas Kinkade. Before The Thomas Kinkade Company, Kevin was the Senior Director of Legal Affairs of Dialpad Communications, Inc., a voice-over-IP pioneer, and led Dialpad's legal department until Dialpad's acquisition by Yahoo!. Kevin was also a member of the Corporate Group of Fenwick & West LLP in Silicon Valley, where his practice included general business and start-up counseling, venture capital financing, technology law, mergers and acquisitions, and securities, and of the Corporate and Real Estate Groups of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP in San Francisco, where his practice included corporate law, corporate and secured finance, and real estate.

In his spare time, Kevin enjoys being a dance, soccer and dog dad, volunteering, trying out new restaurants, hitting the gym, and going to SoulCycle with his wife (not of his own free will).
